The cost of buying and renting homes

If you are reading this we’re pretty sure that by now you are aware that Dubai is home to some of the world’s most exclusive and extreme examples of real estate in the world. You could spend millions on a house, but of course, this doesn’t have to be the case. Statistics show that the average cost of an apartment in the city centre is 13,418 AED per square meter and outside of the city on average you are looking at AED8,618.71 per square meter. This equates to approximately £2,792 or £1,793.

The location of a property will have a significant impact on the rental or purchase price of the property. Prices are lower in areas like Al Waqaa, Diera, Sharjah and so on, while homes located within easy reach of the Sheik Zayed Road will fetch premium prices.

Food and eating out

The cost of eating out hugely depends on where you want to eat, for example, you could go to McDonalds and order a large Big Mac meal, that would cost you 25AED. In comparison to a swanky restaurant with rooftop views in a premium location, where you can spend anything from AED 400+. The cost of dining out ranges hugely depending on the kind of eateries you visit.

It’s entirely possible to a ‘normal’ good meal out for between 80 and 180 AED for two people. At the supermarket, you’ll pay approximately 13 AED (£2.67) for a dozen eggs and 9 AED for a kilo of apples.

Getting around

Many people drive in Dubai, and the good news is that you’re unlikely to get any nasty surprises at the pumps, especially if you’re used to European prices. The price of 1 liter (1/4 gallon) of gas in Dubai is £0.47 (Dirham 2.28)

If you are thinking of buying your own car, there’s also good news, as Dubai has a plenty of used car markets. As you would in any other country, you need to make sure you choose reputable dealerships. Check the details of the agreement carefully and be prepared to negotiate to get the best price.

Taxis are widely available in Dubai, and are known for being one of the cheapest in the world. If you’re travelling from the airport to the city, you can expect to pay in the region of 70-120AED.
